FC UNITED and Boomsbury will contest the final of this season's EJ Shanley & Son-sponsored Spring Cup after victories over respective opponents FC Calne and Westbury Town.

United hosted Calne for a second successive week and like last week's 2-2 stalemate their semi-final tie was just as close with United coming out on top of a nervy encounter as 2-1 victors.

After a goalless first half in which both defences were on top, United probably had the better of the few chances but were unable to take them.

Gary Kelly put Calne ahead and unlike a week ago when they let a two-goal lead slip, United had to do the chasing in this game.

They got back on level terms through Robin Walker, whose great header restored parity.

Mariusz Jackiewicz scored a beauty to give United the lead and they kept pressing looking for a third, but a successive of late corners from Calne almost led to an equaliser.

The hosts had keeper Piotr Gornik to thank for their place in the final as a couple of late saves preserved their 2-1 advantage until the final whistle.

Westbury Town 0 Boomsbury 8

BOOMSBURY had a safe passage through to their third final of the season.

The Division Three champions, already through to the A & B and Knockout Cup final, brushed aside Westbury Town as they hit eight unanswered goals which saw them keep a clean sheet for a 12th successive match.

Carl Davies started the scoring, John Baker added goals two and three before Mike Grieve fired home the fourth to conclude the first-half scoring.

Baker scored Boomsbury's first in the second half to complete his hat-trick and his fourth of the afternoon took it to 6-0.

Jamie Young capped an excellent performance with a quality goal before substitute Scott Askew put his name among the scores with the final goal of the afternoon.
