DEVIZES Judo starlet Jemima Duxberry is relishing another chance to compete abroad for Great Britain later this month.
The 16-year-old, who trains with Devizes Budo Club, will be in Coimbra, Portugal for the first Junior European Cup event of the year on March 25-26, having already tasted overseas action in the Belgian Ladies Open last month.
Duxberry warmed up for Portugal by winning a silver medal in the U57kg category at the English Junior Open in Crystal Palace last weekend.
“Some people go abroad saying that they’re going for the experience but without sounding stuck-up, I’m going there to try to win,” she said.
“When you compete in this country, you know the other players and you think ‘I know what they’re going to do and they know what I’m going to do.’ “I think I’m a bit more comfortable abroad because it’s against different people and you just get to concentrate on yourself.
“I’m looking forward (to Portugal) because there’ll be some of the best juniors in the world there and the kind of people you could meet one day in the Olympics.”
The other U57kg junior competing in the event is the top-ranked Nekoda Davis, who got the better of Duxberry at Crystal Palace.
