DAVE Turner thinks that his side were caught unawares by Oxford City Nomads on Tuesday night.
Bassett romped to an 8-0 win in Oxford earlier this season but goals from Sam Collier and Sean Bailey couldn’t stop them slipping to defeat at Rylands Way.
“They caught us cold - they’ve improved and are a good little side,” said Turner. “The only thing we’re lacking at the moment is consistency.”
On Saturday, Ethan Delaney scored as Bassett beat Flackwell Heath 1-0.
Turner has snapped up Hungerford Town midfielder Mark McMeeking and former Cirencester United striker Richie Miles.
Bassett go to local rivals Shrivenham this weekend.
