Devizes Town chairman Shaun Moffat is eyeing a new dawn for his club under Mark Love, but only after they reluctantly accepted the resignation of manager Tommy Dryden.

The former Calne Town joint-boss quit Nursteed Road on Monday night and a day later, Devizes swiftly appointed Love, who left Hellenic Leauge Shrivenham Town less than two weeks ago.

Dryden cited short-term family commitments as he stepped down from the Devizes hot-seat and Moffat is now looking to the future.

"Tommy was scared that he wouldn't be able to commit time to the club and felt he had to step down," said the Devizes chairman.

"Football management takes up a lot of your time and he also didn't have a number two to take care of things if he wasn't available, which made things hard.

"He's a 100% kind of guy, so we had to reluctantly accept his resignation.

"It's a relief that we've appointed somebody so quickly and Mark will bring his own team here.

"You often get managers bringing players with them when they move, and we can dual register players because Shrivenam were in a different league, so he may have three or four to bolster the squad on Saturday - the season kicks off then for us."

Dryden was only in charge at Nursteed Road for less than two months and admits that he was sad to be leaving the club.

"I've had a few family commitments and I couldn't really commit to the club," he said.

"It's a 50 mile round trip to get over there three times a week and I felt like I wasn't giving my full commitment to the club.

"I'm disappointed that I'm finished there but I'll take some time out from football and have a think about what I want to do next."

Darren Smart has joined Devizes as assistant manager and will take his place alongside Love for this weekend's local derby with Bradford Town.
