PEWSEY Vale’s impressive debut season in the Wessex League Division One continued as they went second on Tuesday.

But boss Adi Holcombe was less than impressed with his side’s performace as Ricky Franklin got the goal just before half-time, to extend their unbeaten run to six games.

Noting a big difference to his side’s convincing 4-1 win at Horndean on Saturday, Holcombe said: “It was a poor performance, especially compared to the last game.

“We beat Amesbury 4-0 earlier in the year and thought that we could just tie our boots. Hopefully this will give the lads the kick they need.’’ Franklin also scored twice at Horndean, Fred Loosemoore and Michael Martin also netting.

“I never expected us to be in this kind of league position,’’ added Holcombe, who praised Horndean for observing a minute’s silence on the first anniversary of the death in a car crash of Pewsey player Charlie Lamb.

Pewsey go to Cowes Sports on Satutrday, with Matt Bissett doubtful, Kai Dorland and Adam Field injured and Dan Kilderry away.
