Ben Highmore is hoping to get back on the goal trail as quickly as possible for Chippenham Town after spending four months in Canada.

The striker returned to the line-up against Banbury United on September 11 and came off the bench in Saturday’s 1-0 defeat to Conference South Farnborough in the second qualifying round of the FA Cup.

“I was working out there and spending time with family because I’ve got a brother and sister who live over there,” said Highmore.

“I did play a bit of football and train in my own time, so hopefully it won’t take me too long to get into things back over here.

“It’s strange having no pre-season but if I could get a goal or two soon then that will help my confidence a lot more than going seven or eight games without one.

“Alan (Griffin) and Lewis (Powell) have been in really good form, so it’s a case of taking my chances when they come.”

Farnborough, last year's Zamaretto League Premier Division champions, started brightly at Hardenhuish Park and scored the game's only goal on 11 minutes.

A long ball from centre-back Stephen Robinson caught out the Bluebirds defence, allowing winger Bradley Bubb to round Chris Snoddy and slot the ball into an empty net.

Alan Griffin produced a neat flick to sweep past two Farnborough defenders before squaring the ball to the arriving Iain Harvey, whose shot was high and wide for the home side’s best chance.

Highmore scored twice the last time Chippenham met Cambridge City and thinks that Saturday’s trip to the early-season table-toppers is an important game.

“We’ve got a lot of tough away games next month and we want to get off to a good start,” he said.

“They’ve been scoring goals and not conceding many but we need to get a result and a win would be great.”
