Saturday against Farnborough was a poor game and it was pretty poor in terms of what we offered in the final third.

But when you have a team that are trying to spoil the game, that are on to the referee, trying to get players booked, trying to get players sent off it’s going to make it a difficult afternoon.

To be fair, I don’t think we did enough to win the game but a draw would have been a fair result.

We gave away a sloppy goal where the defence switched off and the keeper got caught in no-man’s land and their lad just got in for an easy chance.

Our delivery when we got into the wide areas was poor and I thought our distribution from the middle wasn’t bright enough at times.

Once they went five at the back, it was always going to be difficult for us to get anything and they were always going to make it tough.

We’ve just got to show more quality when we’ve got the football, which I’d say has been lacking in the last few weeks.

Our main problem is that we’re conceding an early goal in too many games and, against the better sides, you’re not always going to be able to pull it round.

We’ve got to go back to the drawing board, get ourselves working hard and get ready for the game at Cambridge.

Cup games are great and generate a good crowd but we got caught up in them last year and it affected our league campaign up until Christmas.

After that, we pushed on and it might have been an added bonus for us this year – you never know.

Zane Simpson has been training with us. He’s a Bristol-based left winger, a lad I know and was at Yate last season, did pre-season at Woking and has been at Evesham since the start of the season.

He wants to find something a bit more local, but we won’t be making any rushed decisions.

We’ll see if he’s someone who can improve us.
