ADIE Mings is considering a complaint to the FA over the number of referees being assessed at Chippenham Town’s home matches.

Tewkesbury official Derek Eaton was under scrutiny as he infuriated the home crowd with a number of decisions in Saturday’s 1-0 FA Cup second qualifying round defeat to Farnborough.

Bluebirds boss Mings said: “We seem to be having officials being assessed at our ground every week.

“It puts pressure on the referees and they don’t seem to want to be seen to make decisions – somebody’s going to have to ask some questions about that.

“It can cost you in games and we’re suffering because nobody knows what’s happening from one challenge to the next.”

FA assessors support officer and former Town secretary George McCaffrey said: “They could make an inquiry but I don’t think that any complaint would hold too much sway.

“At this level, assessors are sent to about 40 per cent of a team’s games. The aim is to move those referees on to a higher level.

“An official needs to get a certain mark to be promoted and that won’t happen if teams and the assessors rate them badly.

“Managers and boards of directors are the first to complain about the standard of referees but how can we improve that if we don’t assess them?”
