BRADFORD on Avon runner Holly Rush got the final preparations for her Commonwealth Games bow underway by winning the Windsor Half-Marathon on last Sunday.

The 32 year-old was the fastest woman on the day and finished ninth overall in just over one hour and 17 minutes.

The Team Bath runner is due to fly out to a holding camp in Doha alongside her England teammates on Sunday and says that she is looking forward to being a part of the Games.

“It’s not really going to be the same as the European Championships because there’ll be all the other sports there at the same time,” said Rush, who lives on Frome Road.

“The event is on the last day so we won’t actually be in Delhi for that long, but it’s a big championship and it should be a great experience.

“It should also give me a chance to experience that type of championships - which would be important if you’re ever going to go to the olympics one day.

“Hopefully, I’ll be able to cope with all the humidity and the monsoon season should have finished too.”

The Commonwealth Games marathon event takes place on October 14, where Rush will be racing alongside England team-mates Helen Decker, from Ipswich and Newcastle-under-Lyme’s Michelle Ross-Cope.

The Commonwealth Games rookie revealed that she plans to take a rest from from competing after her Indian adventure, following a hectic season.

“I’m going to take some time out to recuperate. It feels like I haven’t rested in such a long time so I might take about a month off,” she said.
