Malmesbury Victoria will play the second of two six-pointers in as many weeks and will be hoping for a much better result than the first.

The Vics went into last Saturday’s game with Oxford City Nomads on the back of a six game unbeaten run.

However they were overpowered on the day and ended up losing 5-2 and to make matters worse, their opponents leapfrogged them in the table after the win.

They will hope for better fortune this week when they entertain second-placed Letcombe and manager Lee Marshall will tell his players simply to look at their league position if they require any additional motivation.

“They should just look at the table and realise where we could have gone with a win last week,” he said.

“We could be in third now with games in hand on the top two but instead we are fifth. This now becomes a game we must win.”

Malmesbury defeated Letcombe at their ground 1-0 earlier in the season and Marshall has not ruled out a return to the tactics which proved successful on that occasion.

While keen to keep his cards close to his chests the boss revealed he and partner Ken Regan were looking at all their options and may spring a surprise or two on the day.

Adam Whitefield will return for the hosts but Harry Hamvidge is rated no better than 50/50 after failing to shake off the effects of a jarred knee.
