You would have thought that the one thing Pewsey Vale could do without after four straight defeats, is a visit to the division’s runaway leaders.

However manager Steve Wootton has said that his players will go to Hardwicke AFC on Saturday without fear and aim to leave with all three points.

The Pewsey boss was disappointed to see last weekend’s game against Easington Sports called off because of bad weather and is eager to get his players back onto the pitch so theey can reverse their recent slump.

“They’re top of the table and we’re playing away from home, so we have nothing to lose,” he said.

“If anything, this season I think we’ve performed better against the team higher up the league than those around us.”

Pewsey are six games without a win and 16 goals in the last three. They are currently second bottom of the table with just five points from 16 games.

Conversely their hosts Hardwicke AFC have won 13 of their 16 matches played and sit top of the pack. This weekend will see the second best goal difference in the league, +34 take on the second worst in Vale’s –24 so a high-scoring game is expected.

Pewsey will take some confidence from the news that their opponents are in the midst of a relative slump by their own standards having only drawn their last two matches.

The visitors have no new injuries to worry about but sweeper Brent Flippance will miss the game due to work commitments.
