After a gold medal winning performance at the Welsh Open Championships, Tom Reed attended the San Marcial Open this weekend along with Team Bath Clubmates Andy Burns and Alex Goodrich along with Devizes Budo Club Head Coach Richard Hopkins who arranged the trip.
The event featured the best Spanish players from Valencia and Madrid to mention a few and players from France and Portugal. Reed, competing in the U81 Kg category, looked a little flat after four consecutive weekends competing.
His quarter final was tight and ended in a dubious penalty being awarded against Tom to his Spanish opponent.
This loss spurred Tom onto notching his Judo up a gear and he won bronze, totally outclassing his next three opponents.
Andy Burns and Alex Goodrich, fighting as guests of the club, also returned as medallists Burns winning gold in the plus 100 Kg event while Alex won a bronze in the U100 kg category.
Domestically the focus was on the National Age Banded event held in Sheffield.
Luke Jones, Kieren Jones, Hollie Gorton and Charlotte Giles all won fights but failed to reach a medal contest.
Moving up to the U52 Kg category, Jemima Duxberry fought strongly all day to finish in fifth place losing out in her Bronze medal contest. Matside coach for the weekend was Jason Parsons.
