Royal Wootton Bassett put in a commendable performance against league leaders Devonport Services but ultimately succumbed to a second-half resurgence.
The match took place at a local artificial pitch in Plymouth, due to unplayable conditions on the home ground. Bassett started the game in their red change strip.
Ollie Baycroft's early break paved the way for Harry Butterworth to score the opening try, converted by Rhys Floyd for a quick lead.
Devonport responded with an unconverted try before Bassett's Sean Marsden found the line after a thrilling charge down the pitch, extending Bassett's lead to 14-5.
However, two tries from Devonport by half-time levelled the score at 17-17.
After the break, Devonport struck quickly with a converted try from the restart, a further try, and then two more midway through the half to establish a 45-17 lead.
Despite this, Bassett pressed hard, leading to Charlie Hix scoring a try, converted by Floyd.
However, a final try from the home side sealed a comprehensive victory for Devonport.
Bassett will look to bounce back in their next fixture as they host Exmouth in their final match before Christmas.
