Former Chippenham RFC player Tom Dunn said that he was as hungry as ever for success after fulfilling a childhood dream to win the Premiership with Bath Rugby.
Last season saw Bath become champions of England for the first time since 1996 with a Premiership final victory over Leicester Tigers.
Dunn said that, having played for the club his entire career, the celebrations after that victory made for one of the most special days of his life.
He said: “It was a boyhood dream. It was amazing with the parade we had in the city the day after.
“That was one of the best days of my life, genuinely, it was very special to do it with Bath and the people that I did it with.
“It was almost like watching the last 15 years of my life pass by. You were just thinking, ‘There are some ex players, there’s an ex coach, I used to work in marketing with him, I went to school with him, he teaches my daughter, I used to go to school with her.’
“Just going through the city, it felt like 15 years of my life flashing past us, and to experience that was just awesome.”
Bath Rugby face Gloucester Rugby in a Southwest derby clash at The Rec on Saturday, October 11 at 5.30 pm. Tickets can be purchased through the Bath Rugby website, with international stars such as Ollie Lawrence and Henry Arundell set to play in Bath's first Gallagher PREM home game of the season.
Dunn added that whilst he thoroughly enjoyed winning the Premiership for the first time, it was as important as ever for him to keep winning.
He said: “We have talked about the feeling. What it felt like and how it made others feel.
“With that parade, you looked at the photos afterwards and it was people with their families, the crowd, the whole city on the Sunday and how that made people feel.
“I have wanted that feeling for as long as I can remember, but something I heard was that success is only ever rented, you have to give it back and go again.
“I think that the beautiful thing about rugby, with it being a team sport, everyone has their personal ambitions, and then it is when you can align those into one target that you can succeed.
“Whether that be to play 100 games for Bath Rugby, to make your first Premiership start, to get picked by England, everyone has got their personal target, so it is about aligning that and going in the right direction.
“I wouldn’t say that I feel as young as ever, but I definitely feel as hungry. I have spent a long time in my career not winning, and now that we are there, I want to carry that on for as long as I can.”
