Swindon Town have confirmed that winger Sean McGurk has agreed to a contract extension to keep him at the County Ground.

The winger arrived from Leeds United on Deadline Day in the January window and impressed in his time with Town, with standout performances against Gillingham and Tranmere Rovers.

He did fall out of favour towards the end of the season and did not feature in five of Town’s last six games of the season, however, he did set up Charlie Austin’s opening goal on the final day.

McGurk's new contract will see him remain with the club for next season.

Upon signing a new contract with Swindon, Sean McGurk said: "Delighted to have signed a new deal with the club and to be honest I've been in constant conversation since the end of last season.

"I've been in conversation with Jamie Russell and the new Manager, and they've both shown and described to me how they see my role at Swindon Town, and moving into next season I want to get more goals and assists and create more of those moments from last season."

McGurk joins Nnamdi Ofoborh in having extended his stay with Swindon and becoming part of Mark Kennedy's squad for the forthcoming season.

Head of Football, Jamie Russell added: "Sean is a maverick with fantastic technical ability, allowing him to manipulate the ball in tight situations.

"As a player, Sean relishes 1v1 duels and opportunities to score in and around the box, like last season with his goal against Tranmere.

"With a full pre-season under his belt, Sean has the potential to go on and excite fans and help score goals and get assists."

McGurk's performances last season at times earned rave reviews from then interim head coach Gavin Gunning, saying that fans should be excited by some of the young talent at the club, and McGurk has now committed his future to Town.

Gunning said in March: "I have seen people getting excited thinking he is going back to Leeds, but he is our player, and he will be here.

“He hasn’t played any men’s football and he has come in and he has done really well, he didn’t have his best game against MK Dons.

“He wasn’t fantastic in that game, but he knows that, I have looked back at the clips, and explained it to him about where he could have been better with his positional play."
