Former Swindon Town boss Michael Flynn is the current favourite to take over at League Two rivals Cheltenham Town.

Gloucestershire Live are reporting that Flynn will be interviewed by Cheltenham next week as they begin their search for Darrell Clarke’s replacement following his surprise departure to Barnsley last week.

Jon Palmer said that they believe the 43-year-old is the leading candidate at the Completely-Suzuki Stadium as they look to rebuild following relegation from League One last season, and he is the current bookmakers' favourite, ahead of Matt Gray, Pete Wild, Gareth Ainsworth, and Jerry Gill.

Gary Johnson took over as the director of football at Cheltenham last week, but it is believed that his son Lee Johnson is not currently under consideration.

Flynn was in charge at Swindon for the first half of last season after replacing Jody Morris last May, getting off to a quick start as Town went nine matches unbeaten to begin the season before winning just four of the next 22 matches across all competitions.

Swindon themselves are yet to replace Flynn, with loan manager Gavin Gunning being in interim charge for the remainder of the campaign, and four weeks after the end of the campaign the permanent successor is yet to be announced.
