Swindon Town gave themselves too much of a mountain to climb with a woeful first half performance as they lost 2-1 to Doncaster Rovers.

Maxime Biamou and Hakeeb Adelakun scored during a shocking first 45 minutes from Swindon, before Paul Glatzel headed home less than a minute into the second half.

So, how did the players fare as individuals at the County Ground?

GK: Jack Bycroft – 5

The appalling defending for the umpteenth time this season left the goalkeeper with no chance to stop the goals that flew beyond them. His being named captain ahead of Frazer Blake-Tracy is certainly something worth noting.

RB: Udoka Godwin-Malife – 7

He was the only one who showed up during the first half and probably should have had at least two assists for Aaron Drinan. I enjoyed him living in his Lamar Jackson era as the pass was often not an option and he had to go on a mad scramble to do anything and more often than not he kept it.

CB: Tom Brewitt – 1

Two absolute howlers for both goals with just careless mistakes. His header isn’t good enough for the first and then he never sensed Biamou in space behind him and then for the second he again heads the ball straight to Doncaster in a great area. He was also generally bullied by Biamou throughout.

CB: Conor McCarthy – 4

This was a little bit better from McCarthy as he won most of his duels throughout the match but he also did not cover himself in glory for the goals.

LB: Frazer Blake-Tracy – 2

When Godwin-Malife was dominating on the right, Blake-Tracy was doing very little down the left. Neither on that flank offered much at all in the first half and then in the second he was always too slow with the ball.

CM: George McEachran – 5

He was in and out of the game, but I thought that McEachran did some very nice things against Doncaster. His passing was a bit slicker and his dribbling was also impressive.

CM: Dawson Devoy – 3

Gavin Gunning has been moving him deeper and deeper since he joined and I don’t think that is helping. Devoy is at his best when he has the freedom to drive into space and playing as the deepest midfielder doesn’t allow him to do that.

RW: Paul Glatzel – 7

At times this felt like another one of those days for Glatzel, but it was a wonderful header to score in front of the home crowd for the first time. His brain works quicker than everyone else on the team some of the link-ups between him, Godwin-Malife, and Ricky Aguiar were very exciting.

CAM: Ricky Aguiar – 8

This was a truly complete performance from Aguiar and probably his best for Town. Some of his passing was terrific, as was his set-piece delivery. But the best part was his work rate and desire to win the ball, something you wouldn’t normally associate with him.

LW: Sean McGurk – 3

He never really got involved in this one. The ball was not coming near him and most often when it did he was rushing or being crowded out and never made his mark. He is terrific on Tuesdays, but we have yet to see it on a Saturday.

ST: Aaron Drinan – 3

A difficult afternoon for Drinan. On another day he walks away with the match ball,  but after finding his scoring touch in the last week, it deserted him once more and he passed up some big chances and at times looked like he was wearing boots that were too big for him and stopping him from doing what he wanted with the ball.

Substitutes:

Williams Kokolo – 4

There was one very good defensive intervention that he made after coming on, but much of his display was your classic speed being followed by a lack of quality.

Rushian Hepburn-Murphy – 5

He also had one or two moments when he really threatened and had one very good header that brought a big save, but the deep defending from Doncaster was never going to suit him.

Zac Elbouzedi – 3

Another substitution that failed to yield a big impact as he only managed to put in one cross and it did not find a red shirt.

Charlie Austin – 4

He never got much change out of Richard Wood, Tom Anderson, and eventually Joseph Olowu. In half an hour, he failed to have any telling contributions.
