Chippenham Sunday League Awards: FC Bradford manager Pete Collier says his star midfielder Mark Robinson would walk into any Sunday team after he was named the league's player of the year tonight.
The 20-year-old scooped the Gazette & Herald-sponsored award and £100 in sports shop vouchers after scoring 27 goals in Division Two, narrowly beating Foresters Arms' Luke Turvey into second place.
Collier, whose team finished sixth last season, knows he has a gem on his hands. He said: "Mark has had a brilliant season.
"He plays Saturday football for Bradford Town and I'm lucky he wants to play Sundays for me because we're mates.
"He would walk into any team in the Chippenham Sunday League."
Robinson, an apprentice electrician, first played junior football for Bradford Youth and Melksham Youth before joining Avon Bradford in 2002.
In that same season he transferred to the Dog and Fox Ashley where he made over 90 appearances in four seasons.
Robinson signed for FC Bradford at the start of last season and scored two hat-tricks and a six-timer in a super year.
But Collier believes there is still plenty more to come from the starlet, as he did not even need to get out of second gear to shine last season. Collier said: "He was very good but he could have done even better.
"He was a bit lazy in some games, maybe because he'd had a few too many beers the night before. He didn't get my manager's player of the year award so hopefully he can prove me wrong and win it next season. I think we are still yet to see the best of him."
Robinson himself knows he could have done better, despite his accolade.
He said: "I had a good season in terms of goal scoring but I could have scored plenty more -if I had taken my chances I would have easily hit 50.
"It's nice of the manager to say I could play higher but this is still a competitive league. We want to win the title next year."
