Swindon Town have announced the signing of Bolton Wanderers midfielder Ronan Darcy on two-year deal for an undisclosed fee.

The 21-year-old midfielder has spent the first weeks of pre-season on trial with Swindon despite having a year left on his deal at the University of Bolton Stadium.

Darcy came through the ranks with the Trotters and played 11 times as they won promotion to League One in 2020/21, alongside former Town players Eoin Doyle and Lloyd Isgrove.

Darcy said to club media upon completing his move: “I’m over the moon to be here. I can’t put into words how great it feels.

“To meet the lads and work under the manager is huge for me and I can’t wait to get started.

“This is the perfect club for me and my aim is to become a regular starter, playing matches week in week out.

“I want to get fans off their seats, score goals and create opportunities for the players around me – I can’t wait to get going.”

Head Coach Scott Lindsey added: “Ronan has been training with us for a few weeks now and played really well in the friendlies he’s featured in, so I’m delighted to get the deal over the line and call him one of our players.

“He’s a really good lad who fits in well with the group and has built good relationships with the other players in the short time he’s been here.

“He’s a lovely footballer to watch with a great work ethic, so it was important for me we did all we could to bring him to The County Ground.”

Despite signing a contract extension following promotion with Bolton, Darcy spent the first half of last season on loan at Sogndal, where he qualified for the play-offs to make the Norwegian first division but they lost in the first round.

He then spent the second half of the season on loan at Queen’s Park in Scotland, where he helped the Spiders earn promotion to the Scottish Championship.

Darcy has featured in all three of Swindon's pre-season friendlies so far before earning his move to the County Ground.
