FORMER Swindon Town manager Phil Brown said he would “100 per cent” like to see his old club achieve promotion to League One.

The 62-year-old was in charge of Swindon for the majority of 2018 and left after failing to help Town into the League Two play-offs.

Now in charge of Barrow, Brown oversaw the Bluebirds’ 2-1 defeat at the County Ground on Saturday which saw Town hop up into the play-off places with a game to go.

Post-match, the South Shields-born coach was complimentary of Swindon’s performance and said he is hopeful of success for Ben Garner’s team.

Brown said: “They’ve got a great chance (of going up), a great opportunity. There is no doubt about it, they’re a very good football team and we had a game plan to try and stop that.

“But yeah, they've got a great chance. Good luck to them, I want to see them get promoted 100 per cent.”

Town see their fate in their own hands again after Louis Reed netted an 85th-minute winner at the weekend.

Brown waxed lyrical over Swindon’s squad after the game, and said he would have loved to have worked with the standard of squad that Garner has at his disposal currently.

Brown said: “I've worked with a couple of the players. I know Ellis Iandolo wasn't playing today, but I've worked with Dion Conroy who has great composure from centre-half.

“I’ve worked with Jack Payne, and he’s a feisty little character who can also play. So they’ve got a couple of strings to their bow that I actually didn't have when I was here.

“I didn't have the experience of Dion Conroy, I had, unfortunately, an injured Dion Conroy which hurt me because I knew what kind of player he was. Ellis was at the start of his career.

“And then Payne has got a little bit of nous about him and a little bit of know-how. He doesn’t just play, he puts his foot in as well. He probably had one of the biggest hearts on the pitch today.”
