“WRITE us off at your peril” – Jonny Williams believes teams who thought Swindon Town would not make the top seven after a wobble in form earlier this season will now be eating their words.

Ben Garner’s men downed Barrow 2-1 at the County Ground on Saturday to move back into the play-off places after a month outside the dotted line.

And thanks to Sutton United’s 4-1 defeat at home to Bradford City, Town head into the final game of the season knowing if they win they can extend their season by a couple more weeks at least.

Speaking after Saturday’s victory at home to the Bluebirds, Williams said: “The boys are buzzing; it’s great to be a part of this. It’s going to go down to the wire.

“I think I said a few weeks ago that teams had started to write us off after we’d ended up in 11th, that was the lowest we’d been all season.

“I always said if we go to Walsall with something to play for then I’d take it. To now be in with that chance of win and we’re in there (play-offs), that’s a great position to be in.

“The boys have worked really hard, and it’s shown a lot of mental strength to prove people wrong and stay in there.

“We believe in ourselves, we’ve got one more to go, and I fancy us to do it.”

One of the primary reasons behind Town’s resurgence up the table is down to the club’s home form in 2022.

After a poor start to life under Garner at SN1, Town won six of their last nine games in Wiltshire – including two in the past week to keep their season alive.

Discussing how important discovering some form at the County Ground will be heading into a potential play-off clash in around two weeks’ time, Williams said: “It’s vital for us to have found form at home so that people want to come and watch us.

“If we’re losing every game, we understand it can be frustrating for the fans. But they’ve stuck with us, and we have turned a bit of a corner at home.

“If we start games fast like we have done recently, we get the fans on our side, and it can be exciting.

“I always fancy us when we go 1-0 up in games. I always think if we take the lead then we’ll go on and win – apart from Exeter, that was frustrating!”
