KEEPING everything as normal as possible will give Swindon Town the best chance of beating Barrow and maintaining the club’s play-off push, according to head coach Ben Garner.

Town face a similar situation from prior to the midweek win over Forest Green Rovers in which anything other than three points would likely spell the end of their season.

In order to pull of a minor miracle and secure a top-seven spot on May 7, Swindon will have to play with the same mix of urgency and caution as they managed during the 2-1 victory on Tuesday.

Asked how he plans to help Town find the balance between playing on the front foot and avoiding desperation in a must-win game, Garner said: “We’ve just got to play the way we normally do.

“We do a lot of preparation on it, and we’ve played in the same manner all season which I think is a strength of ours.

“It means we don’t have to change anything; we can continue on that process and stick to our principles.

“We always try to attack and be on the front foot, but we do that in a measured way with tactical intelligence so that we’re not gung-ho. That’s what we’ll need to do against Barrow.

“The extra energy and intensity that the crowd can provide will only help us.”

With a two-point gap to Sutton United in seventh, Town will be relying on the London club to slip up in either of their next two games to have a chance of swapping places.

For that reason, Garner is simply focused on attempting to guide Swindon towards three points while hoping for a little extra help from the fans – as was the case against Forest Green in midweek.

There is expected to be yet another 10,000-plus crowd at the County Ground on Saturday, and the Town boss had a message for all of them.

Garner said: “My message to the supporters would be: Enjoy it.

“Let’s embrace where we are, let’s be as positive as we possibly can, and let’s try to be build on Tuesday.

“It was incredible, it was a fabulous atmosphere, it really was. And it makes such a difference, especially in those closing stages.

“This may well be a different and difficult game at times, so we need to all stick together and be positive.

“Hopefully, we can do something remarkable and finish this last home game with three points.

“Let’s attack it, let’s be positive, and let’s see if we can make it another memorable occasion.”
