ADVER Sport assess the performances of the Swindon Town players following the club’s 2-0 defeat at home to Plymouth Argyle on Tuesday night.

Mark Travers – 5

Another game where Travers has very little to do except pick the ball out of his net. The stopper couldn’t have done much about the first goal, but he perhaps could have done better with the one-on-one chance.

Rob Hunt – 4

Hunt started his night by making a poor tackle on Conor Grant which should have resulted in a penalty. All night, cross after cross came in from the Plymouth left, and from one, the visitors scored their first.

Dion Conroy – 6

The captain made a handful of important interceptions, plus one crucial block off Camara, to prevent the scoreline getting any worse for Town. He isn’t being allowed to show off his range of passing though, which may have helped the hosts get up the pitch quicker.

Conor Masterson – 5

Masterson continued to grow into the role as a starting centre-back in difficult circumstances. The QPR defender often tried to make a positive pass, but looked a little unsure of his positioning when crosses came into the box. Games will see him improve.

The Wiltshire Gazette and Herald:

Dom Thompson – 4

Thompson had a tendency to try too many tricks and flicks, which rarely came off. He got caught under the flight of the ball for the first goal too. Aside from making a couple of good tackles and blocks, it was a pretty poor night by Thompson’s standards.

Matt Palmer – 5

Palmer was always looking to receive the ball, but Town’s options in the final third seemed limited all night. A busy player was drowned out by Argyle’s five in midfield during the first half and unable to pick that vital pass in the second.

Jordan Lyden – 5

Lyden cut an extremely frustrated figure throughout and often rushed into challenges too eagerly before being passed around. The Australian ran all night, but seemed to lack any real clarification on what his role in the team was. Subbed.

Scott Twine – 4

A very quiet game by Twine’s standards. He was unable to effect the contest at all before being hooked at the break. Hopefully not a sign the speculation is distracting the 21-year-old. Subbed.

Diallang Jaiyesimi – 6

His ability to hold the ball up and find a successful pass was one of very few highlights in an attacking sense for Town. Jaiyesimi was also the not-so-proud owner of Swindon’s only shot on target.

Tyrese Omotoye – 5

Thrown into the mix without so much as a single training session with his new teammates, Omotoye showed glimpses of his speed and determination to pick himself up after a tumble. He will need plenty of that latter if Tuesday is anything to go by. Subbed.

The Wiltshire Gazette and Herald:

Hallam Hope – 4

After a reasonably impressive showing on Saturday, Hope was almost anonymous during the first 45 minutes on Tuesday. Subbed as Town searched for a way back into the contest. Subbed.

SUBSTITUTES

Matt Smith – 4

His passing was quite poor throughout. Smith seems less and less interested every week under Sheridan. Town need Smith to rediscover his early-season form again sharpish.

Taylor Curran – 4

Caught in possession on more than one occasion, and seemed more rattled than in previous games. Perhaps a loan move away would be a sensible option once a senior pro or two come back from injury.

Brett Pitman – 5

Pitman was offered little or no service up front as Argyle completely controlled the game until the end. A striker is only as good as the service into him, and Town’s was almost non-existent on Tuesday night.

Jack Payne – N/A Payne came on inside the final 10 minutes.
