SWINDON Town were beaten 2-0 by Plymouth Argyle on Tuesday night.

After a goal in each half from Ryan Lowe’s men, Argyle completed the league double over Swindon Town following their 4-2 success earlier this season.

Panutche Camara and Ryan Hardie struck as Swindon’s winless run on Tuesday nights continued.

The last time Town tasted success on a Tuesday night was March 2020 after a 2-0 win over Scunthorpe United.

Despite defeat, John Sheridan’s men moved up one place after Wigan Athletic’s heavy loss to Blackpool.

Swindon Town made two changes from the side that drew 2-2 away at Charlton Athletic on Saturday.

Kieron Freeman dropped to the bench in favour of the returning Rob Hunt, while there was a debut for new signing, Tyrese Omotoye up front.

For Plymouth, former Swindon goalkeeper Luke McCormick started on the bench.

Town began brightly at the County Ground and could have taken the lead inside the first minute when Omotoye flicked at the ball in front of Mike Cooper following a one-two with Hallam Hope.

The Argyle man stood up bravely though and gratefully collected the bouncing ball after the debutante kicked at thin air.

Though the first five minutes belonged to Swindon, the following 40 were certainly controlled by the visitors.

First, Matt Palmer had to react smartly to clear off the line from Jerome Opoku’s mis-timed header. Then, Argyle captain Joe Edwards curled over from the edge of the box – both chances occurring in the first 10 minutes.

Rob Hunt was lucky not to see former Premier League referee Bobby Madley point to the spot following a heavy challenge on Conor Grant in the 12th minute too.

In the 21st minute, Ryan Lowe’s men saw a second legitimate penalty claim waved away after Dion Conroy shoved Luke Jephcott in the back following a throw-in deep inside Town’s half.

Ryan Hardie was next to go close for Argyle, but his heavy touch inside the box prevented the midfielder from finishing from close range after bursting through the middle of Conor Masterson and Conroy.

Despite all the chances, it took Argyle until the 36th minute to actually make the breakthrough.

Conor Grant swung a delightful ball in from the left, and Panutche Camara took the ball down, swivelled and rolled his shot into the bottom corner from the penalty spot.

Only a highly inaccurate Scott Twine strike from the edge of the box punctuated a slow final 10 minutes of the first half, with Town grateful they were not further behind than just the solitary goal.

Plymouth’s Danny Mayor had the first chance of the second half, pulling a first-time effort from inside the box well wide of Mark Travers’ goal before Dom Thompson curled a free-kick against the top of the Town End for Swindon.

Plymouth almost doubled their lead shortly after when Mayor slipped Camara in down the right side of the box. Luckily for Town, Thompson provided what is fast becoming a trademark late block to deny the midfielder.

In the 65th minute, Diallang Jaiyesimi had Town's first proper chance after rolling Tyrese Fornah in the middle of the pitch.

The attacker ran past several Argyle defenders before striking left-footed at Cooper. It was a decent save in the end after a nick off a defender, but nothing more as he sprung away to his right.

Midway through the second half, Plymouth did double their lead. Man of the match, Camara drove at the retreating Town defence prior to slipping in Hardie one-on-one.

The Argyle striker never looked like missing as he tucked it past Travers and into the far corner.

Substitute Niall Ennis crashed an effort over before seeing a further effort blocked inside the final 15 minutes.

In the 85th minute, Argyle had the ball in the net once again following lovely play between substitute Ben Reeves and Mayor, but the latter was adjudged to be offside when the pass was made, and Town escaped.

Argyle nearly secured a fantastic third after centre-back Will Aimson charged out of defence before smacking a long-range effort narrowly off target.

That was to be the final action of the game, as Swindon’s long winless run on a Tuesday night continued.
