SWINDON Town have signed Norwich City striker Tyrese Omotoye on loan for the rest of the season.

The 18-year-old has made seven senior appearances for the Canaries this season, scoring four times, while netting three goals in nine Premier League 2 outings for the club's under-23s.

The former Belgian under-16 international has also snagged a handful of minutes in the Championship and FA Cup this term.

Omotoye’s main source of playing time at Carrow Road has come in the EFL Trophy, where he played every minute of the group stage before moving onto play with Daniel Farke’s senior squad, therefore missing the 6-0 knockout defeat to MK Dons.

Asked about Town’s newest recruit in the pre-match press conference on Monday, Assistant manager Tommy Wright admitted the club were delighted to finally bring Omotoye in after concerns the deal would collapse following an injury to Canaries striker, Jordan Hugill at the weekend.

Wright said: He’s one we’ve had our eye on for a bit. He’s young, he’s done well in the EFL Trophy where he score a lot of goals against Newport.

“He’s aggressive, he’s athletic, he’s got a bit of pace up front – which we needed.

“It’s his first loan, so you’ve got to be careful you don’t expect too much of him, but hopefully he can come in here and make a difference.

“Jordan Hugill got an injury in Norwich’s FA Cup tie and Tyrese came on for him, but it’s not a bad injury to Jordan Hugill, that’s why Tyrese was allowed to come to us.”

Omotoye is Town's fifth January acquisition and the fourth player the club has brought in on loan this month.

Despite manager John Sheridan saying he would only be looking to bring four or five in before February 1, assistant boss Wright said Town may not be done with their business just yet.

With rumours of a County Ground return for defender Will Evans, the Scotsman put those stories to bed in emphatic fashion on Monday.

Wright said: “We’re trying to bring more in, we’re still looking, but it’s got to be right for the club financially and in terms of what we need.

“We’re not just going to sign someone for the sake of it, they’ve got to come in here and make a difference to the team and improve us.

“I know John (Sheridan) worked with Will Evans, and I know his name has been branded about, but I don’t think there’s a lot in that, no."
