SWINDON Town manager John Sheridan admitted he always has the feeling his team is going to concede goals after a dramatic 2-2 draw with Charlton Athletic on Saturday.

With Town leading 2-0 as late as the 57th minute, Chuks Aneke headed in for the Addicks before Andrew Shinnie’s 90th minute leveller broke Town hearts.

Lee Bowyer’s men also hit the frame of the goal three times throughout as a new-look Town defence struggled to form a cohesive relationship.

While Sheridan suggested Town felt hard done by following the late equaliser, the 56-year-old also acknowledged his side was lucky not to have left East London empty-handed after Connor Washington missed an open goal with the last kick of the game.

Reacting to a chaotic performance at the Valley, Sheridan said: “They (the defenders) haven’t played a lot of games – Kieron (Freeman), in particular, hasn’t played a lot of football, but only playing games will help.

“If I’m looking at the first 45 minutes, I thought we looked compact against a good, good side. In the second half, it’s people switching off again.

“We’re 2-0 up in the game, we’ve got to be organising and doing the ugly things better.

“We can’t keep scoring two or three, and I’ve always got that feeling that we’re going to concede goals.

“It’s happened against Charlton with the two goals we’ve ended up conceding that could have been avoided.”

Frustrated at watching his team drop points from a winning position for the third time since taking over, Sheridan lamented a number of poor decisions from his players during the second half.

The Town boss said he did have to hand his players some credit following a dogged display, but was ultimately left frustrated at seeing the same old mistakes.

Sheridan said: “We make wrong decisions at the wrong time, we make wrong runs at the wrong time, we don’t get tight when we should get tight.

“We lose possession easily when we’re in comfortable possession, and that’s what happened in the second half. We didn’t do it in the first half, but we did in the second.

“I’m probably being a bit hard on the players because we’ve come to a tough, tough place and we’ve got a point. 2-0 up, I expect us to win the game.

“It’s hard for me, talking straight after the game. I’m really annoyed that we’ve only got a point, but at the same time, I’ve got to appreciate the players’ efforts of getting a point at a tough place.”
