ADVER Sport assess the performances of the Swindon Town players following their 2-0 defeat to Sunderland at the County Ground.

Matej Kovar – 6

The ‘keeper’s handling sometimes left a lot to be desired, but Kovar could not be faulted for either of the goals.

Rob Hunt – 6

Hunt was pressed back inside his own half as Sunderland dominated the first-half possession, but he defended well before being substituted at half-time. Subbed.

Akin Odimayo – 7

Considering the size of the opposition he was up against, Odimayo held his own physically and occasionally managed to get forward and help the team out.

Mathieu Baudry – 5

The Frenchman continues to battle his way through an underwhelming run of form – Baudry was often bullied and beaten in the air by Wyke. Not to mention, he lost the frontman for Sunderland’s opening goal.

Jonathan Grounds – 5

The Middlesbrough-born defender was caught out a few times by Sunderland’s tricky attackers and ended up giving the penalty away before being booked for dissent for the second time this season. Booked.

Dion Donohue – 7

Donohue looked comfortable in a wing-back role during the first half and certainly showed his quality with some excellent defending. Booked.

Matt Smith – 7

Despite a tricky middle period of the game where he looked a tad frustrated, Smith responded really well and received plenty of compliments from visiting media. Booked.

Anthony Grant – 6

Potentially suffering from an injury or simply just tired from the busy schedule, Grant was unable to stamp his authority on the game as Sunderland’s Grant Leadbitter saw most of the ball.

Jack Payne – 6

Played out wide in the first half, Payne defended well early on. He didn’t quite have the effect he should have when deployed in a central role during the second half.

Diallang Jaiyesimi – 6

Another pretty underwhelming game for Jaiyesimi. He was barely able to lay a glove on Sunderland’s defence before being hooked at the break. Subbed.

Tyler Smith – 6

Smith was barely able to get into the game at all as Sunderland snuffed out anything that came forward during the first half. Subbed.

SUBSTITUTES

Jordan Stevens – 6

The Leeds loanee began really brightly after coming on, but his final ball was quite poor – be it a wayward shot or an overhit cross.

Jonny Smith – 6

Plenty of endeavour from Smith, though his lack of chemistry with Hallam Hope showed and crosses were few and far between.

Hallam Hope – 6

Might be the wildcard answer to Town’s lack of striking options, but was only given one chance to score today and he couldn’t take it.
