Boxing: Jamie Cox says he is a fighter to be feared after his latest bout ended in impressive victory.

The Swindon southpaw beat David Kirk 40-36 in front of 60,000 screaming fans at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff on Saturday.

And he says because he is beating whoever promoter Frank Warren puts in front of him, his reputation is going through the roof.

"I am not getting easy fights, they are tough people who take hard punches", said the 21-year-old.

"Because I am not fighting journeyman boxers and ones who go down easily. I feel I am getting a reputation as somebody to beat."

Cox was on the undercard of Joe Calzaghe's super-middleweight championship fight with Dane Mikkel Kessler.

He said: "These people are fighting for world titles and, even though I am on their undercard, I'm getting the same experience.

"It means when I fight for a world title I will be ready."

But the former Walcot boxer had to steel himself before the biggest fight in his fledgling professional career.

"I always feel confident going into fights but, because of the occasion, I was very nervous," he said.

"In the changing room I was trying to tell myself to relax but I was getting more nervous.

"I have boxed in big places before, like in the Commonwealth Games and Wembley and the O2 Arena but nothing like that.

"Going into the ring and seeing thousands of people was quite daunting and it took the first couple of rounds for me to relax. But I kept to the tactics and kept my composure."
