James Constable is set to realise a boyhood dream when he jets out with England's C team on Sunday.

The former Chippenham Town striker is part of the national squad for Wednesday's International Challenge Trophy clash with Finland in Helsinki.

The call up is a reward for his impressive form, which has seen him bag ten goals for Kidderminster Harriers in the Blue Square Premier.

"I'm obviously excited, it is a great honour to represent your country and hopefully I can play some part and fulfil a dream," he said.

"I didn't have much time to think about my form because of Wembley in May, my double hernia operation in the summer and then the season starting, so it was a good surprise.

"When I left Chippenham, it was massive shock I would be playing League football with Walsall but I never expected to be where I am now," he said.

"I owe them a lot and it is another great step for my career."

Despite the recognition, Constable, who is returning from three weeks out with a hamstring injury, is not getting carried away.

"When I left Chippenham it was to pursue a career in professional football," said the 23-year-old.

"If I am doing well then it means I am doing my job properly. In my career the biggest game is the next one so I'm looking at our FA Cup game at Ware on Saturday.

"After that, I'll start concentrating on the England game."

His form has obviously attracted interest from the national side but will have also caught the eye of watching League scouts.

Though Constable is not thinking about any moves away from the Aggborough Stadium in the January transfer window.

He said: "I have got two years on my contract at Kiddy and that is where I am going to stay and, hopefully, continue to do what I have been doing."

But, for now, the former Walsall ace is just excited to be leaving England, even if Finland is not particularly exotic.

"It will be nice just to get out of the country, though it's probably colder there than it is here," he joked.

"I haven't been away for three years, so it was a rush to find where the passport was when I got the call."
