PLAYER RATINGS:
Steven Benda – 8
Made a number of brilliant catches and saves in the first half to help Town establish a lead. Some quirky kicks, but generally a top performance.
Danny Rose (C) – 8.5
All-action performance in midfield, and grabbed a clinically taken – and deserved – goal albeit with an empty net in front of him. Voted man of the match.
Tom Broadbent – 7.5
Couple of questionable clearances, but composed himself well and has evidently recovered from his confidence knock suffered at the start of the season.
Lloyd Isgrove – 6.5
One of the winger’s quieter games. Wasn’t involved too much and lost track of Kirk in the build up to Crewe’s only goal. Far from a bad game, though.
Jerry Yates – 8.5
A simply brilliant turn and shoot move from Hunt’s ball forward re-established Town’s one-goal lead. Work rate cannot be questioned, brilliant performance.
Michael Doughty – 7.5
Overcame illness in the week to feature and linked up well with Rose in midfield and broke play up well. A key cog in Town’s wheel.
Kaiyne Woolery – 7
Frustrating at times when possession was lost despite Woolery getting himself into good positions, couldn’t quite pick out that decisive pass. Hard working, though.
Rob Hunt – 8.5
Can’t take much credit for what was a very fortuitous first-half goal, but still had the ambition to shoot mind. Delicate ball forward sent Yates through on goal to put Town back in front too.
Diallang Jaiyesimi – 7.5
Picked up his game in the second half, and won possession at key moments several times – though sometimes just lacked that final pass to advance play further.
Paul Caddis – 7.5
Experienced told with a calm and measured performance despite Wellens opting to play an unusual three men at the back. Some dangerous crosses too in testing conditions.
Anthony Grant – 7.5
Continues to play well despite being used in the heart of defence amid Baudry and Fryers’ absence. Won possession well. Like Caddis, a mature performance.
