CREWE Alexandra boss David Artell believes it is ‘obvious’ Swindon Town will be without Eoin Doyle this weekend as the Bradford City striker is set to be recalled.

Doyle has been the subject of much transfer talk following his goal-laden loan spell in Wiltshire, and although the Irishman was sent down south on a season-long loan deal, Bradford do have the option to recall him during the January transfer window.

Swindon hosted Bradford at the County Ground last weekend – a game that finished all square after Shay McCartan’s late free-kick – and talks between the two clubs regarding Doyle’s future are thought to have taken place at some point during the afternoon.

Crewe boss Artell was not privy to those conversations as he was sat in the director’s box at the County Ground while on a scouting mission ahead of his side’s trip to Swindon this coming Saturday.

However, the 39-year-old was reportedly told by a Bantams official that Doyle would be heading back to Valley Parade before Crewe took on Swindon this Saturday.

Artell told Cheshire Live: “The only thing I can say is that me and Kenny (Lunt - assistant manager) were sat in the directors' box and a Bradford director – whether he's the chairman or not I'm not sure – turned round to us and said: “he's coming back Tuesday, so you'll be all right!’

"I don't know whether that's true or not, we'll wait and see what comes through.

"It seems obvious to me (that Doyle will be recalled), but we'll wait and see. I've told you as much as I know.

"It seems straightforward, but I don't know.

“Can Bradford afford his wages, is that why they initially sent him on loan?

“Does he suit their style? Has he fallen out with the manager? I've no idea. We'll see.”
