EOIN Doyle has applauded Bradford City’s professionalism amid reporters’ relentless asking of League Two’s golden question – will the Irishman be recalled by his parent club in January?

Swindon Town loanee Doyle has grabbed more national headlines in recent days after his brace at Forest Green Rovers confirmed goals 20 and 21 for the season, an outstanding record that champions any goalscoring record for a professional in England’s top four tiers.

His opener at the New Lawn also meant the striker has scored in his last 10 appearances – the last game Doyle played in and didn’t score occurred on October 8 against Plymouth Argyle in the EFL Trophy.

No member of management at Bradford has made contact with the Irishman since he told BBC Points West last week that he would be disappointed if the Bantams opted to recall him once the January transfer window opens.

That doesn’t surprise Doyle, though, who only had good words to say about his parent club’s handling of the situation.

He said: “Bradford haven’t responded to anything I’ve said in the week. There has been no contact whatsoever.

“I’m not surprised, because nothing will happen until January – it’s still only December.

“Bradford are being professional and letting me concentrate on the job I have to do here at Swindon.

“My mind is on Swindon, a club I will hopefully be at for the rest of the season.”

Away from Doyle’s off-field predicament, his brace at the New Lawn on Saturday extended his lead at the top of League Two’s top goalscorer chart to 11 goals.

It looked as though his two latest efforts would be enough to earn Swindon an eighth successive Football League win.

But Swindon-born Joseph Mills struck when it hurt most – in the 95th minute to level the game at 2-2.

You could say two points were dropped. But, for Doyle, to travel away to a team that has proven its promotion hopes in recent months and earn a point isn’t so bad after all.

He said: “Saturday was frustrating. We dominated the first half and Forest Green couldn’t get out of their own half – the second half was quite the opposite.

“We took our foot off the gas, and our tempo slowed down. I have faith in this team, but it wasn’t to be at the weekend.

“We didn’t lose. It’s a positive result in a place that is close to come to.”
