IT’S a decision that is out of his hands, but Jerry Yates has made it clear to parent club Rotherham United that he wants to remain at Swindon Town for the rest of the season.

One of several fans’ favourites, on-loan striker Yates has starred under the guidance of Town manager Richie Wellens this term and his performances haven’t gone unnoticed by the Millers.

The 23-year-old has declared his wish to stay in Wiltshire for the remainder of the campaign and win promotion from League Two for a club that has granted him the opportunity to almost double his professional goalscoring tally.

“It’s out of my hands, but I’ve made it quite clear that I want to stay for the season,” said Yates.

“Hopefully I can stay for the rest of the season and win promotion.”

As is the case with any team chasing promotion, morale in the Town dressing room is currently sky high.

A win today over Forest Green Rovers will only further boost players’ togetherness and tilt Town’s points-per-game return over the two-point mark.

Cliché it may be, but Yates emphasised that every player continues to focus on the job ahead, as oppose to reflecting on what has been achieved in recent weeks.

He said: “Everyone is buzzing in training. The players are all flying and confidence is high.

“We’ve got to keep doing what we have been in training and hopefully things pay off at the weekend.

“It’s getting colder and wetter, but training in these types of conditions isn’t just for us – everywhere is affected by the weather.

“We know that we have to graft through the week regardless of the conditions.

“Forest Green is a tough place to go, we’ve got to go there full of confidence and not change what we do.

“We know on any day that we can beat any team.

“It’s nice how many goals I have scored, but it is more about the team. It’s not all about the forward players, because we get the chances.

“For me, it’s more about the team behind myself and Eoin (Doyle).

“I don’t really have a favourite goal. So long as we win on a Saturday, that is all that matters to me.”
