MALMESBURY racer Louis Harvey was presented with the John Payne Memorial Trophy for best overall junior at Rissington Kart Club’s annual dinner dance on Saturday.

The club held its awards night in Tewksbury to recognise its drivers, marshals and staff for their achievements through 2019.

Harvey, who has ambitions to one day race in Formula 1, was there to collect his trophy for winning the Rissington Kart Clubs Junior TKM championship for 2019, but to his surprise was also presented with the John Payne Memorial Trophy for the best overall junior for the season due to his overall performance in three competitions.

Harvey had a fantastic year racing in the 12 rounds of the Rissington Kart Club Championship with five wins, three seconds and three thirds.

The 15-year-old only missed out on a clean sweep of podium finishes in round 11 where he was involved in an incident which also cost him his chance of winning the Midland Championship Title.

Harvey also competed in the Motorsport UK British Karting Championship, securing third place in Britain, and was the highest seeded driver from Rissington Kart Club drivers taking part in the national competition.

Harvey said: “I have had a fantastic year in 2019, The Klaassen Motorsport ARC Chassis and prepared engines have performed amazingly and my results have been very consistent.

“I really can’t thank my sponsors and supporters enough for helping me to get this far.”

Harvey has one more year left in Junior kart racing and is looking to compete in both the Rissington and British championships again in 2020 before hopefully making the move to racing in either Formula Ford or Formula 4 if he can secure the relevant sponsorship.
