PAUL Caddis is no longer training with Swindon Town, and any possibility of the versatile right back re-signing for the club has been ruled out by manager Richie Wellens.

Caddis made 77 Football League appearances for Town during a two-season stint in Wiltshire nine years ago before Championship club Birmingham snapped up the 31-year-old on a three-year deal following an initial loan spell at St Andrews.

Caddis has been without a club following the expiry of his contract at Bradford City last season, however he linked up with Wellens’ squad in October to establish an appropriate level of match fitness should a team call on his services.

Wellens himself didn’t rule out the possibility of swooping for the former Town favourite. But he confirmed to the Adver on Wednesday that no wage budget is available to him following the signings of Gabriel Zakuani and Dion Donohue.

“It’s only because of finances (that we can’t sign Caddis),” said Wellens.

“We didn’t budget for Gabriel Zakuani or Dion Donohue. We picked up injuries and you don’t expect to get them.”

Swindon Town next play on Saturday when travelling to Cheltenham in the first round of the FA Cup.
