SWINDON Town defender Rob Hunt admits he and his teammates have not kept as many clean sheets as they should have this season.

Hunt’s admission came just days after Swindon prevented Crawley Town from laying a glove on them in their 4-0 demolition of the Red Devils at Broadfield Stadium.

That victory followed another resolute performance in defence as Richie Wellens’ men overcame Mark Sampson’s Stevenage at the County Ground by a goal to nil – a game in which the right-back assisted Eoin Doyle’s late winner.

Including the most recent pair, Town have recorded five clean sheets in 19 League Two, EFL Cup and EFL Trophy games so far this season.

Though in the other 14 league and cup fixtures, Hunt and co. have shipped 28 goals while Town’s stopper has been forced to collect the ball out of his net three times in one game on five separate occasions.

While Town may be free-scoring at the top end thanks to the likes of Eoin Doyle and Jerry Yates, the 24-year-old is looking a little further back in terms of where the team can make the biggest improvement in the coming weeks.

He said: “It was a very good away performance last weekend – we’ve kept a clean sheet and scored four good goals.

“Everyone wants to score goals, but as a defender, you’ve got to love defending and keeping clean sheets.

“Thankfully we’ve managed to do that in the last two games.

“I don’t think we’ve kept as many clean sheets as we should have this season, but it’s nice to get forward and take part in attacking moves.”

The former Oldham man joined Swindon in the summer on a free transfer, once again linking up with his old boss Wellens on a two-year deal.

Since arriving, Hunt is one of only two players to have featured in every Town game this season – Lloyd Isgrove is the other – and the Dagenham-born player is delighted with the amount of faith his manager is showing in him.

Hunt also praised Wellens for the way his manager incorporates attacking full-backs into his game plans and how much he wants every one of his players to develop.

The right-back said: “I think I’ve improved this season – the manager is always trying to help us improve and get what he wants out of us.

“For the position that I play, it’s very attacking, so the manager gives me that licence to get forward.

“He trusts you to help the attacking players but also get back and defend as well.

“I think I’m always improving, especially learning from the lads around me as well.

“It’s nice to play a lot and the manager has that trust in me to pick me every week.”
