WILTSHIRE’S Lewis Fletcher has been selected to represent Great Britain at the second World Deaf Tennis Championships in Turkey, which get under way this weekend.
Great Bedwyn’s Fletcher is one of four players picked by the LTA, the governing body for tennis in Britain, for the competition in Antalya, which runs from October 12-19 and see players from 18 countries battling it out across singles, doubles and mixed doubles events.
Fletcher, 34, also competed at the first World Deaf Tennis Championships held in Nottingham in 2015 and last year partnered fellow pick Esah Hayat to win a silver medal at the Dresse Cup.
“I am very pleased with my recent performances at the national championships alongside my partners,” said Fletcher.
“I really believe if we play the way we are we have high hopes of medals in Turkey.
“Esah and I set the benchmark last year at the Dresse Cup World Team Championships, winning the silver medal, so I see no reason why we can’t continue that success and go one better at the Worlds.”
