ROYAL Wootton Bassett Town were unable to carry their Hellenic League Premier Division revival into the Challenge Cup at the weekend as they fell to a 3-1 defeat at home to Hereford Lads Club.

Sam Collier's side had finally claimed a first league win of the season at the sixth time of asking the previous Wednesday when they triumphed 3-1 at Longlevens.

Daniel Langford, Alfie Presley and Giorgio Wrona got the goals that day to move Bassett onto five points in the league.

However, they were unable to follow that up with another success in the Challenge Cup.

James Hancock gave Hereford a narrow lead at half-time before TJ Bohane restored parity for the home side early in the second half.

Parity did not last long, though, as Jamie Cuthbertson put Hereford 2-1 up before Adam Hockey wrapped up the win in the closing stages.

The visitors finished the contest with 10 men after Adam Newbury was sent off.

Bassett return to league action this Saturday when they host Windsor.

Division One West side Malmesbury Victoria had no game last weekend but are due to face Shortwood United at home on Tuesday night.

The Vics then travel to Cheltenham Saracens on Saturday.

  • PEWSEY Vale have also struggled for form this season and remain on just one point nine games into the Sydenhams League Division One season following a heavy 7-0 defeat at home to Romsey Town last weekend.

Indrit Elezi was their chief tormentor as he struck four goals. Geoffrey Dunn netted a brace, with Romsey's magnificent seven finished off by James Clifton.

Vale travel to Andover New Street on Saturday.
