TOMMY Bridewell picked up another podium finish in the British Superbikes Championship in the latest round at Assen at the weekend, although his hopes of title glory suffered a setback as Scott Redding took a twin win.

Wiltshire racer Bridewell crashed on his Oxford Racing Ducati in the opening race at the Dutch circuit but battled back to finished second in the final contest.

Redding triumphed on each occasion to move onto 595 points at the top of the championship leaderboard.

That is 51 clear of third-placed Bridewell with two rounds of the season to go. Redding’s Be Wiser Ducati team-mate Josh Brookes is second on 581.

Etchilhampton’s Bridewell said: “I am a bit disappointed with race one but, as always credit to the team – they got the bike rebuilt.

“It wasn’t bad, it just took me a few laps to get comfortable and find the limit again. It is quite hard to go from a crash to leading the race again.

“We will bounce back for Donington and enjoy the rest of the season. The team has done a phenomenal job to get me where I am.

“I have just got to keep smiling and having fun.”

The championship continues with round 11 at Donington Park on weekend of October 4-6.
