DEVIZES Canoe Club youngster Phoebe King won a gold medal at the Gloucester South West Region Hasler at the weekend.

King triumphed in the Lightning two-miles U10 years girls section.

Alfie Scaplehorn finished fifth in the boys’ equivalent race.

There was also a silver medal for Dan Jones in the Division Two 12 miles contest.

In Division Four over eight miles, Charlie Allen was fourth and Nigel Chivers 10th, while James Cleaver was seventh in Division Five over the same distance.

In the Division Seven four-miles race, Neil King was 13th ahead of William Scaplehorn in 17th.

Also over four miles, Beatrix Fooks was fourth in Division Eight while there was a silver and bronze medal for Arthur Hunter-Hopkins and Phillipe Ehrnrooth respectively in Division 10.

In the K2 doubles races, Neil Edgar and Kevin Crabb placed fourth in Division Five over eight miles.

Jill Priday and Jenny Jones finished fifth in Division Eight over four miles, while Ian Thackray and Tereza Thackray triumphed in Division Nine over the same distance.

Meanwhile, four Devizes paddlers took part in the 60th Anniversary of the Liffey Descent in Dublin.

Steven Bush and Mark Ball clocked a time of 2hrs 15mis 40secs, while Stuart Bell and Andy Elworthy posted 2:22.52.
