AT 37-years-young, Stephanie Millward will hear nothing of retirement – and as long as she keeps winning gold in the pool, who can question her?, writes JOE LEAVEY.

The Corsham swimmer added two more titles to her collection at the World Para Swimming Championships with relay glory alongside Alice Tai, Brock Whiston and Toni Shaw in both the 4x100m medley and 4x100m freestyle.

And, with the Tokyo Paralympics just a year away, Millward is already dreaming of the podium out in Japan.

“I feel so proud,” she said.

“I knew that we were going to be good, incredibly good; I even told people that we’re going to take this world record tonight, I said ‘cheer us on, I bet we’re going to take it’ but I didn’t think we’d take it by quite so much!

“The team is wonderful. Every single person was screaming, every single person was part of it, every single person was trying their hardest. We were always going to do well; this team is fantastic; we’re ready for Tokyo.

“This pool is incredible, it’s been incredible for every single competition that’s held in it and it’s so special.

“Everybody hears the roar, the shouting, everybody feels so special when they’re walking through that door.

“You get the aura, you get the atmosphere. Just coming back, feeling it all again and hearing the screams of the crowd; I love it, absolutely love it, never want to retire!”
