WILTSHIRE rider Tim Price headlines a star-stacked field for the 2019 Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials, with three horses entered in the prestigious CCI5*-L class.

Marlborough-based Price has reigning Burghley champion Ringwood Sky Boy as his leading entrant.

The 40-year-old New Zealander, who is currently ranked world number one, will also compete on Xavier Faer and Bango.

“I can’t quite believe that I am taking three to Burghley,” said Price.

“I have watched guys do that in the past and thought they are a little bit mad and now I am doing it myself, but you can’t hold a good, fit and ready Burghley horse down.

“My three guys are all feeling good. They are very much suited to this competition, so I am very excited about getting them there and having a good week.”

Price’s wife Jonelle, who last year won the Badminton title, will compete aboard Faerie Dianimo.

A total of 78 combinations from across the globe will be chasing the top prize at Burghley.

The first horse inspection took place yesterday and is followed by two days of dressage, cross-country on Saturday and showjumping on Sunday.

Organisers expect around 167,000 people throughout the week.
