ROYAL Wootton Bassett thumped Highworth 95-59 in the semi-finals of the Wiltshire men’s four rink league play-offs to book their place in Sunday’s final at Devizes.

Bassett led throughout against Highworth. They were 28-11 up overall after five ends, 52-20 at 10, 68-43 at 15 and 81-57 at 18 ends before finally winning convincingly 95-59.

Bassett took the accolades on all four rinks, with top honours going to the foursome of Kevin Embling, Matt Daniell, Dave Snell and skip Mel Biggs 31-13 over Richard Young’s team.

Next best were James Nobbs, Andy Crump, Chris Cheesley and skip Neill Collett, who beat Stuart Murray’s rink 25-16.

Dave Godwin’s were 19-12 up after 18 ends when victory was declared, while the rink of Barry Sictorness, Graham Richards, Terry Walton and skip Gary Morphet before finally winning 20-18.

  • BOWLS Wiltshire county finals weekend will be held at Devizes this coming Saturday and Sunday.

Ten domestic titles are up for grabs as well as the top county ladies and men’s team events.

Box ladies, winners of the Top Ten competition for the past nine years in a row, defend their crown against Supermarine, while Royal Wootton Bassett men contest the four rink league final against either Chippenham Town or Westlecot.

Also being played at Devizes will be the county ladies national pairs final as Box’s Debbie Shadwell and Kathryn Yeoman go up against Stratton Churchway duo Jackie Pearce and Janet Willis.

Shadwell has already won both the fours and triples titles with separate Box colleagues so will be bidding to complete a treble of county ladies titles.
