YOUNG Chippenham racer Dominic Kilmister produced a superb display at the Shenington SuperPrix Junior TKM to finish second in the annual Karting UK English Championships event.
The 14-year-old took position amongst the 47-driver field in timed qualifying and converted this into two comfortable second-place finishes in the heats.
Starting on the front row of the grid for the final in his Tim Wilson Motorsport kart, Kilmister made a solid start, and although he lost a place, he soon slotted into third.
A small mistake on lap three resulted in contact with the driver in second and saw them drop back, but Kilmister quickly made his way back up into the top four within a couple of laps.
A red flag after an accident paused the race for a short while and after the restart, he was part of a small group to break away from the field and create a small gap.
A frantic last couple of laps saw the lead change three times and in the final corner of the last lap, Kilmister managed to gain to cross the line in third.
After penalties had been applied, he was promoted to second to take the mantle of Junior TKM English Vice Champion 2019.
Kilmister’s father and mechanic, Paul, said: “We’re all so incredibly proud of Dom. He drove brilliantly.”
