TOMMY Bridewell endured a frustrating weekend in the British Superbike Championship at Thruxton, failing to finish on the podium at a round for the first time since the season opener and losing ground in the race of the title.

Etchilhampton racer Bridewell arrived at the Hampshire circuit sitting second in the standings, having claimed eight podium finished from 13 races this season.

However, he produced his most disappointing round of the campaign on his Oxford Racing Ducati to finish eighth and then fifth to collect only 19 championship points.

Andrew Irwin won race one ahead of Scott Redding and Josh Brookes.

Brookes then jumped to the top step of the podium in race two, beating Irwin and Peter Hickman.

Chippenham's Danny Kent was also in action, failing to finish the first race on his Bike Devil Sweda MV Agusta and finishing 18th in the second race.

Redding continues to lead the way in the race for the title on 246 points, 20 ahead of Be Wiser Ducati team-mate Brookes. Bridewell is third on 207.

The championship resumes at Caldwell Park on weekend of August 16-18.
