The Wiltshire Gazette and Herald:

ONE TO WATCH: Regan Slater

REVENGE isn’t in Swindon Town boss Richie Wellens’ character.

But he wouldn’t mind taming Scunthorpe United’s Regan Slater this weekend - the man who struck a brace for Carlisle United last year in Town’s hopeless 4-0 defeat, Wellens’ first game in charge.

The teenager still has the backing from parent club Sheffield United, and for good reason.

Slater has spent the majority of the summer training with the Blades ahead of the Premier League campaign, and was selected as one of 22 players to travel out to Algarve for the club’s pre-season tour.

He was only confirmed by Scunthorpe as an addition earlier this week, and it could very much prove to be a timely one.

KEY BATTLE: Mathieu Baudry v Lee Novak

LEE Novak certainly knows how to find the back of the net - and at League Two level he has the capabilities to fire Scunthorpe United back into League One at the first time of asking.

Experienced, composed and still backed by ambition, Novak struck 13 times in 47 appearances for Scunthorpe last season - and agreed to extend his Glanford Park stay in March for another year.

Another experienced character - but on the other team - will be Swindon Town new boy Mathieu Baudry. Named vice-captain on Wednesday, Baudry will be a prolific figure in Richie Wellens’ team this season.

The pair’s clash could well be the game’s most important.
