DEVIZES Town manager Rob Broadbank won’t set too many expectations on his players this term ahead of the new Toolstation League Division One season as he occupies the dugout at Nursteed Road for the first time, writes JONATHAN LEIGHFIELD.

Broadbank takes over following the news that Darran Walters was stepping down at the end of last season.

The former Carterton manager says he has inherited much the same squad that ended last season in 11th place and, with a handful of new additions, is hopeful of improving on that this time around.

Broadbank said: “Pretty much all of the guys that were there last year have stayed, which is good, and that’s what the chairman wanted.

“We’ve brought a couple of lads in from my time at Carterton, and we believe they’ll be good additions to the squad.

“Pre-season has gone really well – we’ve made them work quite hard, but they’ve bought into what I want to do really well.

“In terms of expectations, I would just like to do better than what they did last year.”

Broadbank says he has been warned about the physicality and direct approach that most sides in the division take, but insists he still wants to play football ‘the right way.’

He said: “I know they all say the Toolstation League is a bit different to the Hellenic League, but I want to get the ball down and play if we can.

“Instead of that typical route one stuff, we’ll try and play between the lines.

“There’s a time and a place, but we want try and play some good football.”
