Swindon Town have announced the signing of Jerry Yates on a season-long loan from Rotherham United.

Yates' arrival at the County Ground takes Richie Wellens' number of summer signings up to five as the 22-year-old follows Tyler Reid, Adam May, Mathieu Baudry and Zeki Fryers into the club.

The Millers striker has accumulated 40 professional games since making his debut in April 2015 while enjoying two months on loan at National League side Harrogate Town.

Yates has featured 46 times for Rotherham, scoring five goals, however, last season, the Doncaster-born striker spent the second-half of the campaign on-loan at Carlisle where he scored six goals in 23 appearances.

Speaking to Swindon Town's official website, Yates said: “I was buzzing when I heard of the interest.

"I was delighted, so I came down, met the Manager, saw the ground and was straight on the phone to my agent after saying: I wanted to go there because it’s going in the right direction.

"I feel like the manager is the right man to help me progress and hopefully help the club progress so things are looking positive.”

Meanwhile, Richie Wellens said: “I think Jerry’s got a little bit of everything – he’s got a good trick, he can score goals.

"He’s high energy and he’s infectious in the way that he plays, and I think other people will follow suit, and he’s hard working.

“He had a loan spell at Carlisle which was very good for him last year – he spent the first ten or twelve games playing wide left which is not his natural position but he showed great character and attitude just to get on with the job.”
