SWINDON Town are expected to delve back into the transfer market this week and remain close to completing the loan signing of Adam May.

Town boss Richie Wellens sealed his first signing of the summer last Monday by snapping up full-back Tyler Reid on a free transfer from Championship side Swansea City.

That arrival was swiftly offset by the departure of fellow full-back Kyle Knoyle, who turned down the offer of a new contract at the Energy Check County Ground to sign for Swindon’s League Two rivals Cambridge United.

Additional transfers have so far failed to come to fruition for Town, although the Adver understands the club hope to conclude at least one more new signing in the coming days.

Numerous reports have linked Town to an array of names as manager Wellens seeks to rebuild his squad ahead of the 2019-20 season, with midfielder May the chief amongst those.

May was on the brink of wrapping up a move to the County Ground on loan from League One side Portsmouth as early as last Tuesday, although a deal is still yet to be confirmed.

However, negotiations remain at an advanced stage and it is understood that only the finalising of paperwork between the two clubs stands in the way of the 21-year-old completing his switch to Town.

It is thought that May will sign a season-long loan deal at SN1 following successful loan spells away from Pompey at Sutton United and Aldershot Town in the National League over the last three seasons.
