TOMMY Bridewell picked up a double podium finish in the latest round of action in the British Superbikes Championship, writes TIM CRISP.

Wiltshire racer Bridewell twice finished third in the triple-header at Donington Park over the Bank Holiday weekend and now sits second in the championship.

Etchilhampton’s Bridwell has picked up 109 points from the opening seven races of the championship and sits six points behind Scott Redding, who jumps to the top of the leaderboard after winning all three races at Donington.

Having already finished third in race two, Bridwell matched that position in race three, slipping between Xavi Fores and Tarran Mackenzie in the battle to finish second behind winner Redding.

Oxford Racing Ducati rider Bridewell said: “The bike was working a lot better in the last race, but we didn’t quite have the pace.

“Scott got a bit of a comfort gap and Xavi and Tarran were battling quite hard. I just had to sit there, I didn’t quite have enough to get by them and maybe try to chase Scott.

“I am a bit happier after the last race because – although this weekend hasn’t been tough by any means, quite the opposite – I feel there is a little bit more potential in the bike that we are not quite unlocking to get the wins.

“They will come. Credit to my team – the have done a phenomenal job.”

Bridewell had looked on course to claim victory in the opening race of the weekend when he held the lead, however, he suffered tyre issues in the latter stages and had to settle for fourth place.

The 30-year-old started from pole position in race two and again held the lead during the race. He then dropped back to third – a position he held until the race was red flagged after 18 of the 26 laps due to rain.

And Bridewell rounded off his weekend with another third-place finish in the last of the races to complete another strong round and make it four podium finishes from the first seven races this season.

The championship resumes at Brands Hatch on weekend of June 14-16.
